President’s Message,
Ladies and gentlemen, Studebaker fans, and lovers
of all things chrome and carbureted…
After over 50 years of burnouts, breakdowns, and
buffets, the San Diego Studebaker Drivers Club is
officially pulling into the garage and hanging up the
fuzzy dice.
Yes, it’s true. We’ve been around longer than most
marriages — and ran smoother, too. We’ve shared some
great times: road trips, Zone Meets, and our very own
Cool Classic Car Show. Heck, we even gave money to
charity, and not just to the guy at the gas pump.
But times change. People are traveling, families
need attention, health gets in the way, and apparently,
some folks discovered that air conditioning and power
steering are... nice.
The board looked at every option. We even
considered bribing members with donuts, but it turns out
you need people to show up to eat them. At some point,
it felt like we were trying to jump-start a car that
just didn’t have a battery anymore.
So with a heavy heart — and a much lighter
carburetor — we’re announcing that the San Diego
Studebaker Drivers Club will officially disband as of
July 1, 2025.
But don’t worry — we’re not going out with a
whimper. We’re planning a farewell Party! There’ll be
food, stories, and probably at least one person bragging
about how their Studebaker still doesn’t leak oil
(liars).
We’ll also be making plans for how to handle the
club treasury — and no, it’s not enough to buy another
Golden Hawk, but maybe a couple of tanks of gas if we
act fast.
It has truly been an honor and a privilege to
serve as your president and newsletter editor. You’re
all a wonderful bunch — loyal, passionate, and slightly
obsessed with a car company that hasn’t made a vehicle
since Nixon was in office.
Thank you for the memories, the laughs, and the
oil-stained friendships.
We encourage the members to join the Antique
Automobile Club a very active and energetic Group.
Also see the note from Rosalind Metzger,
President, BCOIE, inviting those interested to join the
Orange County Chapter.
And remember: Studebakers never die. They just
drive off into the sunset... very slowly, and usually
with their blinkers on.
Dear Studebaker Enthusiast, Members of the San Diego County Chapter or those new to Studebakering are encouraged to check out the two southern California Chapter's closest to San Diego. Beach Cities, Orange, Inland Empire (BCOIE) Chapter or the Los Angeles Chapter. |
